Boarding / Daycare

okun.JPGAugust 3, 2003

To all the staff at Pets in Paradise:

The purpose of this letter is to thank you for all the wonderful work you've done with Gidget. Whenever we leave her in your care, whether for a day or a weekend, we are worry free. I know she is safe, well cared for and having fun. Most importantly, you have always communicated to us about Gidget’s stays, telling us who she played with and how her day went.

Doggie Daycare is the best! My husband and I used to feel so guilty leaving Gidget home all day. Now seeing her get so excited because she knows where she is going in the morning puts our minds at ease. We don't leave Gidget with just anyone. Joyce and Tina, you have really made us feel great knowing you care about Gidget as much as we do. A couple of weeks ago when I dropped Gidget off at doggie daycare Tina was outside and came up to my car widow and took Gidget. When I was leaving I looked back and saw her carrying her and all I saw of Gidget was her little tail wagging so fast. That made me feel so happy. Gidget can't wait to get there in the morning, and when I pick her up, she's actually tired. Something we love to see. She is having a blast!

You have raised the bar in boarding and doggie daycare! Thank you again and we wish you all the best.

I would highly recommend all of your dog-related services, daycare, boarding, grooming or training, to anyone I know.

Thank you,

 Deanna Okun

p.s. Gidget thanks Tina for doing such a great job grooming her.

Behavior Counseling

I adopted a small breed dog from the Humane Society about five years ago. Teddy is a very loving dog and a great pet except that he suffers from severe separation anxiety and O.C.D. ( compulsively licks his paws). When we leave the house Teddy cries then begins to howl, he scratches the door franticly and at times vomits. He was started on tranquilizers by the vet. to try to calm him which only left him a little dazed but the paw licking became worse, to the point he had no fur on any of his legs and paws. My vet recommended having him seen by a behaviorist and Joyce came to the rescue. After three appointments Joyce taught us how to work through our problems and today teddy has fur on all of his paws, we can leave the house without any notice, and Teddy is no longer on any medications. Our family thinks Joyce is a true genius and we can't thank her enough for helping us to be able to enjoy our pet.

Joyce, just wanted to send you a note to thank you for all your help with our little rescue terrier, Brandi.  She was having terrible separation anxiety and was very shy and timid and exhibiting alpha tendencies making her very nervous and unhappy when we would leave her alone

After only a few weeks using your training instructions, the transformation in Brandi is amazing! She has already learned a few commands and does Stay very well and now has mastered Down (at least with a treat as reward).  We took her to the pet park yesterday and some of the people who had not seen her in a while were amazed at her progress.  She is so much more lively, happy and playful.  She even initiates play with the other dogs (she used to just sit and watch and not get too involved).

We are happy with her progress when we leave the house also.  We give her a busy bone or kong and leave without her seeing us.   When she comes out she wanders around for a while looking for us and then she usually lies down for awhile or goes back into her room.  She does not bark or call us back as long as she does not see us leave.  Hopefully, when we finish the Protocol lessons we can work on leaving while she watches us leave.  We have decided not to crate her since she is not doing any damage to anything in the house.   She does like her crate, however, and sleeps in it every night.

Overall, we are very pleased with the progress Brandi is making.  She always looks at us directly when we speak to her and does not follow us around the house quite so much.  I know this is a long process and we are being very patient with her, but she is a much happier, confident little dog.  Thanks for all your help and Brandi says Thank You too!
